WARREN, Ohio (MyValleyTributes) - John “Jack” Edward Kapp, Jr., 89, of Warren, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Akron General Hospital.

Jack was born on August 4, 1935 to John and Mildred Kapp.

He grew up in Champion, Ohio, and graduated from Champion High School in 1953.

Growing up, he was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman, and loved spending time at the family farm in Champion.

A self-made man, Jack spent 50+ years in the oil and gas business, primarily in the Appalachian Basin area of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and West Virginia. Jack was a God-fearing man with a strong faith in Christianity. He was a dedicated member to his church in Canfield and very involved in the community there. He was very generous, and donated to numerous organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project.

Jack married Mary Ann Pavlik in 1957, and they resided in Warren. Jack and Mary Ann ventured down to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in the 80’s and enjoyed many fun times in the sun with their family at their second home there. Jack loved waking up every morning and taking his daily walk, and was fond of the beach and the neighborhood cats that came by. He always made sure to pay a visit to his favorite restaurants in Fort Lauderdale: Carlos & Pepe’s, Greek Islands, and Jack’s Hamburgers.

A fan of cars and aviation, Jack was protective of his 1998 Cadillac and “Old Red.” Jack was also a fan of cigars. Jack enjoyed traveling and was especially fond of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, California, and the Bahamas. He enjoyed nature and spent trips fishing with his wife and sons and good friends in the fresh waters of Canada and the Florida Keys.

Everyone who knew Jack knew he made the best and freshest salsa and margaritas. His grilling was impeccable and you never knew what he was going to cook up in his crockpot or oven. Jack loved a good meal, and enjoyed eating out especially at his favorite local places like Salvatore’s, Leo’s, Vernon’s, and The Chop House. He also looked forward to going to Squaw Creek.

Jack was also a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Cavaliers. He also enjoyed watching old movies in his free time. A father figure to many, Jack lived his life to the fullest, enjoyed the company of others, and was a great conversationalist.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Ann Kapp, and two sisters, Sally Cykon and Judy Kapp. Jack will be remembered by his sister Linda Venetti and three children, Cynthia A. Como of Warren, David A. Kapp of Poland, and Eric M. Kapp (Mary) of Howland and Canton. He also leaves behind a granddaughter, Emily A. Kapp of Chicago, step-grandchildren Joey (Rachel) Forchione of Richmond, Virginia, Tony (Brie) Forchione of North Canton, Ohio, Vinny Forchione of Vancouver, Washington, and Anna Forchione of Columbus, Ohio, and step-great-grandchildren Crawford, Carter, and Noah.
